Dr. Cathey is a Urogynecologist and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgeon at OGA. Urogynecology, a subspecialty within Obstetrics and Gynecology, is dedicated to the treatment of women with pelvic floor disorders such as incontinence and prolapse. Urinary incontinence, leakage of urine, is a very common condition effecting women. Prolapse simply means a bulging or pressure sensation in the vaginal area caused by displaced or falling female organs such as the bladder, uterus, vagina or rectum. Prolapse and incontinence frequently occur together. These are not a normal part of a woman’s aging. Non-surgical and surgical treatment is available for patients with these uncomfortable symptoms.
As a Urogyencologist, Dr. Cathey’s practice also treats overactive bladder (urinary urgency and frequency), emptying disorders (difficulty urinating), and other bladder disorders. For additional information about this specialty please visit www.augs.org and click on “Information for Women”. Testing available through our office includes cystoscopy, ultrasound, urodynamics testing, and electrodiagnostic testing (EMG) of the pelvic floor.
After completing her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Cathey underwent fellowship training where she spent several years focusing on the treatment of female gynecological disorders. She first completed a Fellowship in Advanced Gynecological Endoscopy focusing on minimally invasive surgical techniques such as laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. This was followed by a Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery fellowship, where she concentrated on treatment of pelvic floor disorders. She currently participates in training other gynecologists in these modalities.
Dr. Cathey is a native of Louisiana. She recently returned to Houston in 2006. She and her husband Carlos live near the medical center. When out of the office, she enjoys running, reading, cooking, gardening…and shopping.
