Ivonne Escudero Smith, MD, FACOG
Ivonne Escudero Smith, M.D. has been practicing Obstetrics and Gynecology with Obstetrical and Gynecological Associates, P.A. in Houston, Texas since 1995. She specializes in all aspects of women’s healthcare.
Dr. Smith holds an active staff appointment with The Woman’s Hospital of Texas.
Dr. Smith is a Board Certified Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).
Born in Santa Clara, California, Dr. Smith received her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from The University of Texas at El Paso, graduating with Honors. She earned her Medical Doctorate from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, School of Medicine in Lubbock, Texas with High Honors.
Dr. Smith completed her Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Her training included specialization in minimally invasive surgical procedures, routine as well as high-risk obstetrics, infertility diagnosis and treatment, as well as all areas of gynecology.
Dr. Smith has several academic publications to her credit, including a paper on Pregnancy following Cardiac Transplantation and is a frequent speaker at professional and civic organizations.
Dr. Smith is a member of The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Medical Association, where she has served as a delegate, the Texas Medical Association (past Chapter Vice-President), the Texas Association of Mexican-American Physicians and the American Medical Women’s Association.
In addition to her professional memberships, Dr. Smith is also involved in several community service arenas. Dr. Smith has become a champion for Operation Rainbow, a non-profit organization that provides free care to medically underserved areas of the world. Dr. Smith is an integral member of a team of physicians who take part in medical missions to South America.
Dr. Smith is an avid runner, and participates in marathons and numerous local races that benefit women and children services throughout the Houston area. (Komen Race for the Cure, MD Anderson’s Sprint for Life, and the Houston Area Women’s Center Annual 5k to name a few.) Dr. Smith tops the list of Marathon finishers in New York, Houston, Austin and Boston for 2005. (4 Marathons in 6 months!)
Recognized for her medical expertise and understanding of the challenges facing female athletes, Dr. Smith serves as Physician Consultant in the Division of Sports Medicine at Rice University.
She also holds the honor of delivering the first baby born in Texas in the new millennium, just ten seconds after midnight 2000.
Dr. Smith is Bilingual (Spanish) and is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
Dr. Smith resides in Houston with her husband and three children and enjoys sports, cooking and family travel.
